- 40mm bonded polyurethane core
- Thermal break at every section joint
- Full perimeter seals, all four edges
An insulated garage door has a foam core between two skins rather than a single sheet of steel or aluminium. In Zimbabwe the case for one is strongest not on a garage at all, but on the buildings people actually work in through the middle of the day.
Insulated doors we supply into Zimbabwe
- Insulated steel sectional doors, the standard and strongest option.
- Insulated steel roller shutter doors for workshops, stores and low-headroom openings.
- Insulated aluminium-faced doors where the finish matters on a house or a lodge.
- Full perimeter seals, without which the insulation in the panel does very little.
Workshops and workrooms in the heat
A workshop with a single-skin door on the sunny side becomes unusable by early afternoon, and in the valley or the lowveld that is not an exaggeration. Where cooling is expensive or the power to run it is unreliable, the fabric of the building has to do the work, and the door is the largest single surface in most of these buildings.
Cooling that does not depend on power
This is the practical argument here. Insulation works whether or not the electricity is on. On a site where air conditioning stops every time the grid does, an insulated door and proper seals keep a space workable through an outage in a way that no powered system can.
Cold rooms and produce stores
Cold rooms, produce stores and packing buildings on agricultural operations need insulated curtains with full perimeter sealing and fast operation, so the temperature does not leave while the door is open. Where a compressor is already vulnerable to supply interruptions, a door that seals properly reduces how hard it has to work.
Seals matter as much as the core
An insulated panel with a fifteen-millimetre gap under it is a compromised door. Bottom, side and head seals are part of the specification rather than an accessory, and they also keep dust out at floor level.
Stiffness and durability
A foam-cored panel is far more rigid than a single skin, so it tracks better on a wide opening and holds its shape. On a door that has to last through long service intervals that rigidity is a durability benefit rather than a comfort one.
Weight, balance and the operator
Insulated doors are heavier. The balance components are rated to the finished door and any operator is sized on the real mass and on the supply available. On a heavy insulated door we specify a chain hoist or a properly sized manual arrangement so it can still be moved without power.
Spares and panel replacement
An insulated panel is a manufactured item, so we build to standard sizes and supply the hardware spares with the door. Where a building runs several insulated doors we will discuss holding a spare section on site.
What an insulated door costs
More than a single-skin door, and clearly worth it on any building that is worked in. Priced on opening size, facing material, finish and drive, with crating, transport, clearing and installation shown separately.
Common questions
About insulated garage doors
If the garage is attached to the house, has been converted into a room, or has a bedroom above it — yes, clearly. If it is a detached garage storing a car and a lawnmower, the money is better spent on a heavier gauge or better locking.
Our standard sectional door uses a 40mm section with a rigid polyurethane core bonded to both skins. Because the foam bonds rather than sits loose, the section is stiffer than a single sheet of the same weight and does not drum.
Noticeably, in both directions: the boom of the door itself and traffic noise off the street. It is often the real reason people upgrade when there is a bedroom over the garage.
Low-headroom track kits recover part of the requirement. Beyond that a sectional door will not fit, and we get part of the benefit with an insulated roll-up curtain and heavier perimeter sealing instead. Measure lintel to ceiling and send us the number.
