A roller shutter door is a heavy powered machine hanging above a doorway people walk under. On Zimbabwean industrial and mining sites those doors are frequently large, old and maintained by whoever is available, and the failure that matters is a spring or a cable letting go while somebody is underneath.
Roller shutter door safety inspections in Zimbabwe
An inspection covers the whole assembly, not whether the door opens. We check the parts that only matter on the day something fails.
- Safety edge and photocell operation tested under load, not just for a beep.
- Anti-drop and safety brake checked where one is fitted or required.
- Manual release and emergency operation operated in full, from where an operator would stand.
- Spring and cable condition assessed against cycle life rather than appearance.
- Guides, fixings and structural steel checked for movement and corrosion.
- Controls and isolation checked so the door can be made safe for work.
Whole-site inspections on one visit
Because we travel to Zimbabwe on booked trips, an inspection here is done as a site-wide exercise rather than door by door. We go through every opening on the property, list them by building and location, and produce one report. That is far better value than repeated visits and it gives a safety officer a complete picture rather than a partial one.
Inspections on mines and heavy industry
Workshops, stores and processing buildings on the coal, nickel, chrome and platinum operations run doors in dust and on hard duty. Those are inspected against their real working conditions, and we report corrosion of fixings and structural steel as safety defects rather than as cosmetic items.
Manual release as a safety item
In a country where the power goes off routinely, a seized manual release is not an inconvenience, it is a safety failure. A powered door that cannot be released by hand traps people and stock, and it is the item most likely to have quietly stopped working. We operate every release in full and report a stiff one as a defect.
Fire-rated door inspections
Fire shutters carry additional checks: the release mechanism, the fusible link or detector interface, the controlled descent rate, and confirmation that the door drops fully into its guides. A fire shutter that has been painted, obstructed or wired around is not a fire shutter, and we report that in writing.
What you receive after the inspection
A written report listing every door by building and location, its condition, the defects found, and each defect graded by urgency, with safety risks separated from wear items. It is a document you can hand to an insurer, a group head office or a safety officer.
Turning the report into a work plan
Because remedial work here means either a spares order or another visit, we group the findings into what your own people can do, what needs parts sent up, and what needs us on site. That makes the report a plan rather than a list.
Booking an inspection in Zimbabwe
Send the site address and the number and type of doors, and we will schedule it into the next trip to that region.
Common questions
About roller shutter door safety and compliance inspections
Powered doors are machinery. Insurers, health and safety officers and fire consultants increasingly want evidence that yours have been inspected and are operating within safe limits, and a verbal assurance from whoever last worked on them is not evidence.
Closing force measured against safe limits, safety edges and photocells tested, manual override and fail-safe operation checked, spring and drive condition assessed, and fixings and guides inspected. Everything is recorded, including anything that failed.
Yes. Fire-rated assemblies are life-safety components, so we test release from the building fire panel rather than just locally, and confirm gravity descent operates as designed.
You get a written report listing what failed and what it needs, priced separately. There is no obligation to have us do the remedial work — the report is yours either way.
