- Punched galvanised slat, mixed options
- Openings to 6 000mm wide
A perforated roller shutter door closes an opening while still letting light and air through it. In Zimbabwe the ventilation argument is usually stronger than the display one, because a great many buildings here need to be locked without being sealed.
How a perforated roller shutter door is built
- Punched or grille-pattern slats in steel or aluminium, in a range of open areas.
- Standard guides and locking, so the security specification is unchanged from a solid door.
- Mixed curtains with a solid lower section and perforated upper where security and airflow both matter.
- Powder-coated finishes matched to the building.
Ventilation without air conditioning
Where cooling is expensive or the power to run it is unreliable, a building has to breathe. A perforated shutter secures a workshop, a store or a plant room and lets air move through it, which on a hot lowveld or valley site is the difference between a workable space and an oven. The open area is chosen for the building volume rather than picked from a catalogue.
Plant, generator and battery charging rooms
Generator enclosures, transformer rooms, compressor housings and battery charging areas all need to be locked and ventilated at once. Charging areas in particular carry a real ventilation requirement, and a perforated curtain is usually the simplest way to meet it.
Agricultural and produce stores
Grading sheds, produce stores and equipment buildings on the sugar, tobacco and grain operations need airflow and security together. We size the open area against the building and the use, and where dust is a factor we look at where that dust would go before recommending perforation.
Shopfronts that keep trading after hours
Perforated curtains let a display show overnight while the shop is locked, and they let a security guard or a passing patrol see into the premises rather than at a blank sheet of steel.
Security of a perforated curtain
The perforation is in the slat face; the strength is in the slat section, the end locks, the guide depth and the bottom rail. A properly specified perforated door secures an opening as well as a solid one. On a high-risk frontage we run a solid lower section and perforate above reach.
Choosing the open area
More open area means more light and airflow and a lighter door. Less means more privacy and a more solid appearance. We supply samples with the quotation so the decision is made against something real.
Cleaning and dust
A perforated curtain has more surface for dust to settle on and its guides need clearing more often. That goes into the handover documentation and the maintenance schedule rather than being discovered later.
